Two Kopassus Soldiers Killed by Separatist Movement ‘OPM’ during Independence Day Celebration - Free West Papua Campaign

It was still in the celebration of Indonesia 73rd independence day on 19 Aug 2018 in Tingginambut District Puncak Jaya. Letda Inf Amran Blegur (a Danpos of the High Military Command Special Forces) and Pratu Fredi were on their way to bring food aid for school-age children in Tingginambut village. Their intention was no more than to encourage the young kids in Tingginambut to be more diligent in studying. Besides, the village was only 1 KM from their post. It was not as they expected when they were stopped by strangers.

The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB/OPM) brutally shot Letda Inf Amran Blegur and Pratu Fredi with guns and arrows. This separatists group always talk about human rights while they shot & killed people with no mercy.

At 14.00pm the same day, local people informed Military Headquarters about this accident as they did not agree with what this separatists group did. They were directly going to save their leader & friend. Sadly, it was too late, what they could found were only the dead bodies.

Lt. Inf. Amran died with gunshot wounds to the head and arrow wounds to the abdomen and waist while Pratu Fredi suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of the waist and arrow wounds and a hot leaded front head.

“Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih expressed our deep condolences for the deaths of two TNI soldiers named Lt. Inf. Amran Blegur (Commander of Tingginambut Post) and Private First Class Fredi, our nations’ finest, and for the families who are left behind to be given the strength and patience to endure this,” said Dax Sianturi, Deputy Spokesman of Cenderawasih XVII Regional Military Command

The terror acts from The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB/OPM) has become the series of the horrifying nightmare for local people. They are not only attacking the government of the Republic of Indonesia, but also the outsider, whoever they are. Early august, they shot the surveyor (consists of experts, academician, students, and volunteer) of Papua Terang, a program to install electricity in 1.200 villages in West Papua.

The Tingginambut Security Task Force duty is to conduct security measures in the Papua region through a humanitarian approach to the Papuan people. They also conduct forward persuasive efforts to invite The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB/OPM) members to put down and hand over their weapons to the security forces and avoid armed conflict to achieve peace in Papua.

Commander of the Cendrawasih Kodam, Maj. Gen. George E. Supit, has ordered every personnel of Kodam to increase awareness in each post and take action to chase the armed separatist criminal groups TPNPB/OPM based in the forests of Papua.

“In general, the situation in the Papua remains conducive, the incident took place in an area that was quite far from civilians. It did not significantly affect the activities of the Papuan people. It was unfortunate that the group took action on Sunday, a holy day for the Papuan people who are mostly devoted Christians,” he said. “They do not respect their own brothers. The group is obviously not a representation of Papuans.”

“We also invite all Papuans and the Indonesian people to unite against terror carried out by the TPNPB/OPM in order to maintain the sovereignty and integrity of the Republic of Indonesia,” he concluded.
